My lovely dad passed away unexpectedly in April, and just prior to this happening, he and my stepmum handed me a bag of old candy stripe sheets and Witney blankets. When I said they would come in handy as dust sheets, they both look aghast. I did a quick back track and said I would love to have them as bed linen. They were then stuffed in a cupboard and forgotten for a bit. I remembered having sheets like this as a kid, and asked my stepmum recently where the sheets and blankets came from. To my utter surpise, she said from my old family home. These were the sheets I had slept on as a nipper. Well, out of the cupboard they came yesterday and into the washing machine for a freshen up!
The multi-coloured ones are a bit faded and I think I will use them to line two of my couffin baskets. The brown aren't bad, but not my colour, so maybe cotton covers for dog beds. The blue stripe are almost new and will be used in our caravan. They are really beautiful, and slightly nautical, which I like. All of these lovely vintage sheets will bring back fond memories of home, childhood, and my wonderful dad. Just have to sort the Witney blankets out next.
Talking of vintage, M and I popped into our local auction this Saturday and bagged this lovely little metal garden table. Just got to make up my mind on the colour to paint it!
It came as a lot with this stepladder...
...minus the flowerpots, they were M's idea. Both items came to seven quid, so we were really chuffed. Now it's just down to whether to paint the steps in shabby fashion or leave alone....decisions, decisions!
