A BREAK IN THE RAIN!

The last few walks we've taken have been squelchy, slippy and pretty disgusting to be honest and that's why we decided this afternoon, to take a bracing walk down into Witcombe Valley. Also, sheep are now  grazing in our  usual bog, I mean fields.  The two little specks in the centre of this image, are people...it's quite a large valley.  When Mr. was a nipper, and there was snow,  he used to slide down that hill on a plastic bag.

As you can see...SUNSHINE and blue skies!

We walked up into a small wood in order for Pearl to check out some old rabbit holes.

This ones a bit blurry, as she decided to pull on the lead as something had piqued her interest!

Interesting knobbly, mossy tree trunks.  That white protrusion proved a very handy seat when I had to haul up my socks, which kept riding down...I hate that.

Beautiful, velvety tree moss.  I love the way it forms on just one side of the tree like a coat.

These are the first primroses we've seen, although there are quite a few snow drops out near the house.

Our walk wasn't entirely without mud, but nowhere near the gruesomeness we've been used to. Given we have rain, rain and more rain forecast for the weekend, I'm just glad we got out for a good walk in glorious sunshine, mind you,  I was totally knackered when we got back to the car an hour and a half later.

As soon as we were in Mr. lit the fire (the little gadget on top is a convection fan and it really helps belt the heat out).  Hot mugs of tea and a nice bit of crochet before dinner prep I think.

TULIPS,  SOURDOUGH,  MANDALAS...OH, AND SNOW! I cannot believe we are already almost halfway through February.....where did January go for goodness sake? I've been treating myself to tulips, for which I'm a bit of a sucker, with this delicious bunch reminding me of rhubarb and custard sweets f or some reason. My affection for tulips at this time of year stems from the fact that they don't elicit itchy watery eyes and snotty, sniffly noses, symptoms that daffodils do.  Having said that, I have some Tete a Tete in the kitchen that will be coming into flower soon, so better stock up on the tissues. This bunch also called to me.....well, you can't have too many can you? I thought how nice they would look with  some sort of matching doily underneath them and a mandala sprang to mind.  I chose to this pattern one for it's design and colour palette and it proved to be an easy little make. The photo does not show the true colours, quelle suprise, as...
WE ARE NOT AMUSED! Her face says it all! As I mentioned in a previous post, this Bernat dog coat was meant for Pearl, but despite measuring her from collar to the base of her tail, it worked up in a larger size (my tension was off, I guess) and swamped her.  Lucky that she has a slightly larger sister! However, someone was not at all happy with it, refusing to co-operate in my photo shoot.   I was hoping for a canine, Ellie McPherson style strut on the decking, but Elsie was having none of it and flatly refused to look at me. It's quite mild here at the moment but when we have a nice cold snap, she might be more appreciative of it. I have also finished my Nordic Shawl. I've already been wearing it in the evenings, before the fire is lit and it's so warm and cosy.  If you want a lovely warm item of clothing that crochets up really quickly, give this a go. Information and links showing lots of examples are in my previous post.   I ought to b...
I bought my first bunches of daffs today, as my yellow tulips were shedding their petals. They look like a bunch of green artists brushes at the moment. I love the transparency of the tips, hiding those soon to be, beautiful blooms. Pearl is crashed out in the background after a mammoth walk this morning. So much for good weather today. It started beautifully, then blackened, then rained, then snowed and now we're back to glorious sunshine.  We took our chances and luck was with us on our walk and both dogs are now pooped.  I was quite excited when it started to snow, as it was the first we've seen this winter. I so wished it hadn't rained and the snow had settled for a few hours.  I do suffer from snow envy when I read other blogs and see shots of pure white fairy tale beauty.  Ah well. Valentine's day is looming. I don't know how you feel about it, but over the years, I've come to view it as another consumerist activity that guilts people into spe...
