A QUIET TIME

Mr. spent the big day in bed, eventually joining me on the sofa in the evening for a couple of hours. Thankfully, he's much improved today.

We just had our Christmas dinner, a day late, and rather on the meagre side as neither of us is particularly hungry.  If Mr. was on form, those pigs in blankets wouldn't be in this pic, neither would the potatoes, sprouts and stuffing balls!

The dogs had a little feast too and there's plenty for us all to nibble on over the next few days.
We were really bad and ate it on trays, in front of the fire (slap wrists!).

We bought our turkey from Lidl again this year, as last year's from Fen Farm was one of the tastiest we've ever had and at £46.50, well worth it.

This is the first year we've been on our own for Christmas and Boxing Day, which has felt a bit weird to me, but I'm grateful for it to be honest.  We will entertain family in a few days time, when Mr.'s fully back on his feet and not looking and feeling like a wrung out dishrag.

We've just watched Reindeer Family and Me, with Gordon Buchanan and his reindeer, Grumpy, in search of the Northern Lights.

What a treat, and how I wish I could have been on the journey with them. That would certainly be one off the bucket list.  I have also now fallen in love with Grumpy.

To be honest, TV has been a major disappointment this Christmas.  I can remember when you would buy your festive Edition of the Radio Times and sort out your viewing pleasures for the holiday period.  We don't subscribe to Amazon Prime or have Sky channels, but we do have Netflix, for what it's worth, but their Christmas selection of films were dire.  So glad we have a good selection of festive dvd's to fall back on, oh and our Christmas jigsaw puzzle.

As it's been so quiet, I've started to crochet a sweater for Pearl.  We think she's about 10 years, and I wonder if she feels the cold when out on walks. She's ok when running off lead, but as she's going in to be spayed on Thursday, it will be walking on lead for a few days and if the temperature drops, I want her to be warm.

I had a real problem finding a suitable free pattern  but settled on this one by Bernat.

You can size it accordingly, so I'm hopeful it'll fit, I'm making it in a purple aran yarn from my stash, so she should look quite regal in it.

Right now though it's time to light some nice smelly candles, as the sprouts seem to have had the usual effect on Elsie!

Bye for now!

TULIPS,  SOURDOUGH,  MANDALAS...OH, AND SNOW! I cannot believe we are already almost halfway through February.....where did January go for goodness sake? I've been treating myself to tulips, for which I'm a bit of a sucker, with this delicious bunch reminding me of rhubarb and custard sweets f or some reason. My affection for tulips at this time of year stems from the fact that they don't elicit itchy watery eyes and snotty, sniffly noses, symptoms that daffodils do.  Having said that, I have some Tete a Tete in the kitchen that will be coming into flower soon, so better stock up on the tissues. This bunch also called to me.....well, you can't have too many can you? I thought how nice they would look with  some sort of matching doily underneath them and a mandala sprang to mind.  I chose to this pattern one for it's design and colour palette and it proved to be an easy little make. The photo does not show the true colours, quelle suprise, as...
WE ARE NOT AMUSED! Her face says it all! As I mentioned in a previous post, this Bernat dog coat was meant for Pearl, but despite measuring her from collar to the base of her tail, it worked up in a larger size (my tension was off, I guess) and swamped her.  Lucky that she has a slightly larger sister! However, someone was not at all happy with it, refusing to co-operate in my photo shoot.   I was hoping for a canine, Ellie McPherson style strut on the decking, but Elsie was having none of it and flatly refused to look at me. It's quite mild here at the moment but when we have a nice cold snap, she might be more appreciative of it. I have also finished my Nordic Shawl. I've already been wearing it in the evenings, before the fire is lit and it's so warm and cosy.  If you want a lovely warm item of clothing that crochets up really quickly, give this a go. Information and links showing lots of examples are in my previous post.   I ought to b...
I bought my first bunches of daffs today, as my yellow tulips were shedding their petals. They look like a bunch of green artists brushes at the moment. I love the transparency of the tips, hiding those soon to be, beautiful blooms. Pearl is crashed out in the background after a mammoth walk this morning. So much for good weather today. It started beautifully, then blackened, then rained, then snowed and now we're back to glorious sunshine.  We took our chances and luck was with us on our walk and both dogs are now pooped.  I was quite excited when it started to snow, as it was the first we've seen this winter. I so wished it hadn't rained and the snow had settled for a few hours.  I do suffer from snow envy when I read other blogs and see shots of pure white fairy tale beauty.  Ah well. Valentine's day is looming. I don't know how you feel about it, but over the years, I've come to view it as another consumerist activity that guilts people into spe...
