BIRTHDAY TIME!

Yes, it's my 'special'  birthday today (no, not telling)  and what a day!

Mr. was poorly through the night, won't go into gruesome details. Our girl and C cooked me a birthday breakfast and she made rostis, which were totally delicious.  We then opened my birthday present, some beautiful earrings, which I adore.

The backs are pretty too.

We also opened our Christmas presents, as they won't be here on the day. . We don't really do presents as such, as we  prefer money to be donated to charity as we have everything we need.  We did them a food hamper, as we worried that with them being here so close to Christmas, they would have to rush around at the last minute for things.

Mr. managed to stagger downstairs to say goodbye before going back to bed.  He's so upset as he wanted to spend more time with his girl and  the time they were here went too fast. I was sad to see them go, but didn't cry this time, so that's an improvement.

I pottered about but couldn't settle until I'd heard they were home safe.   Then I relaxed and settled down to sample the homemade Advocat and coconut truffles the girl had made me. She made rum truffles for Mr. using his favourite rum, Kraken. but they will have to wait, poor boy.  Mine were delicious and I had to let her know that I will be expecting them every Christmas from now on!

Despite me not wanting presents, my Aunt bought me fresh water pearls, naughty girl.

and my equally naughty step Mum bought me a silver pendant

It was engraved on the reverse and she'd put pictures of Mr. and the girl inside.

I've checked again on the Mr. to make sure he's had more fluids, and I'm now snuggled on the sofa with Pearl and Elsie, a Terry's chocolate orange and bag of Jelly Belly beans, to watch one of my favourite Midsomer Murder episodes, Ghosts of Christmas Past.

Really hoping my poor man is feeling better tomorrow.

TULIPS,  SOURDOUGH,  MANDALAS...OH, AND SNOW! I cannot believe we are already almost halfway through February.....where did January go for goodness sake? I've been treating myself to tulips, for which I'm a bit of a sucker, with this delicious bunch reminding me of rhubarb and custard sweets f or some reason. My affection for tulips at this time of year stems from the fact that they don't elicit itchy watery eyes and snotty, sniffly noses, symptoms that daffodils do.  Having said that, I have some Tete a Tete in the kitchen that will be coming into flower soon, so better stock up on the tissues. This bunch also called to me.....well, you can't have too many can you? I thought how nice they would look with  some sort of matching doily underneath them and a mandala sprang to mind.  I chose to this pattern one for it's design and colour palette and it proved to be an easy little make. The photo does not show the true colours, quelle suprise, as...
WE ARE NOT AMUSED! Her face says it all! As I mentioned in a previous post, this Bernat dog coat was meant for Pearl, but despite measuring her from collar to the base of her tail, it worked up in a larger size (my tension was off, I guess) and swamped her.  Lucky that she has a slightly larger sister! However, someone was not at all happy with it, refusing to co-operate in my photo shoot.   I was hoping for a canine, Ellie McPherson style strut on the decking, but Elsie was having none of it and flatly refused to look at me. It's quite mild here at the moment but when we have a nice cold snap, she might be more appreciative of it. I have also finished my Nordic Shawl. I've already been wearing it in the evenings, before the fire is lit and it's so warm and cosy.  If you want a lovely warm item of clothing that crochets up really quickly, give this a go. Information and links showing lots of examples are in my previous post.   I ought to b...
I bought my first bunches of daffs today, as my yellow tulips were shedding their petals. They look like a bunch of green artists brushes at the moment. I love the transparency of the tips, hiding those soon to be, beautiful blooms. Pearl is crashed out in the background after a mammoth walk this morning. So much for good weather today. It started beautifully, then blackened, then rained, then snowed and now we're back to glorious sunshine.  We took our chances and luck was with us on our walk and both dogs are now pooped.  I was quite excited when it started to snow, as it was the first we've seen this winter. I so wished it hadn't rained and the snow had settled for a few hours.  I do suffer from snow envy when I read other blogs and see shots of pure white fairy tale beauty.  Ah well. Valentine's day is looming. I don't know how you feel about it, but over the years, I've come to view it as another consumerist activity that guilts people into spe...
