CHRISTMAS HAS LANDED!

We bought our outside tree yesterday, £11.00 from Homebase for a five footer! Chuffed with that. The smell in the car on the way home was exquisite and somehow relaxed me so much.  My dream is to one day live in a house constructed mainly of wood with hopefully a permanent, similar smell.

Today, Mr got started on  'decking the halls'.  He absolutely loves doing this and is much better at it than me.  If he had his way, he would Griswold the exterior of our house.

I'm much more a 'little is more' kind of girl.

When it comes to the inside tree, it's artificial, sadly.  We used to do the real tree thing years ago, but once we started rescuing dogs, it just didn't work. They seem less interested in artificial trees, or perhaps that's just our pooches.

We have some re-arranging to do in the Dining Room, before we can put up our winter tree, so that will happen in the coming week, plus there's another tree to go up in the back garden. It's tree madness here, I tell you!

The little feather angel was made by my gorgeous girl when she was in year 3 of primary school. It's one of two she made and they always go on the tree.

We listened to Nat King Cole whilst decorating the tree. Funny thing is, I was going to buy Gregory Porter's 'Nat King Cole and me' and decided to sample the tracks on Amazon. His voice was perfect, but  I thought I'd  listen to the man himself, Nat King Cole and was sold.  Gregory Porter was over a tenner for twelve tracks, Nat King Cole 'Unforgettable' has twenty tracks for three pounds in Asda. A no brainer really.  I seem drawn to old crooners these days (good grief, I'm turning into my Grandma Maud!)

I usually have my first snowball with a maraschino cherry or two, when decorating the tree. You might think that's cheesy, but I think it's retro and I'm sticking to that.

Took this while all it's little lights were flashing!

I'll be girding my loins for another festooning tomorrow!

TULIPS,  SOURDOUGH,  MANDALAS...OH, AND SNOW! I cannot believe we are already almost halfway through February.....where did January go for goodness sake? I've been treating myself to tulips, for which I'm a bit of a sucker, with this delicious bunch reminding me of rhubarb and custard sweets f or some reason. My affection for tulips at this time of year stems from the fact that they don't elicit itchy watery eyes and snotty, sniffly noses, symptoms that daffodils do.  Having said that, I have some Tete a Tete in the kitchen that will be coming into flower soon, so better stock up on the tissues. This bunch also called to me.....well, you can't have too many can you? I thought how nice they would look with  some sort of matching doily underneath them and a mandala sprang to mind.  I chose to this pattern one for it's design and colour palette and it proved to be an easy little make. The photo does not show the true colours, quelle suprise, as...
WE ARE NOT AMUSED! Her face says it all! As I mentioned in a previous post, this Bernat dog coat was meant for Pearl, but despite measuring her from collar to the base of her tail, it worked up in a larger size (my tension was off, I guess) and swamped her.  Lucky that she has a slightly larger sister! However, someone was not at all happy with it, refusing to co-operate in my photo shoot.   I was hoping for a canine, Ellie McPherson style strut on the decking, but Elsie was having none of it and flatly refused to look at me. It's quite mild here at the moment but when we have a nice cold snap, she might be more appreciative of it. I have also finished my Nordic Shawl. I've already been wearing it in the evenings, before the fire is lit and it's so warm and cosy.  If you want a lovely warm item of clothing that crochets up really quickly, give this a go. Information and links showing lots of examples are in my previous post.   I ought to b...
I bought my first bunches of daffs today, as my yellow tulips were shedding their petals. They look like a bunch of green artists brushes at the moment. I love the transparency of the tips, hiding those soon to be, beautiful blooms. Pearl is crashed out in the background after a mammoth walk this morning. So much for good weather today. It started beautifully, then blackened, then rained, then snowed and now we're back to glorious sunshine.  We took our chances and luck was with us on our walk and both dogs are now pooped.  I was quite excited when it started to snow, as it was the first we've seen this winter. I so wished it hadn't rained and the snow had settled for a few hours.  I do suffer from snow envy when I read other blogs and see shots of pure white fairy tale beauty.  Ah well. Valentine's day is looming. I don't know how you feel about it, but over the years, I've come to view it as another consumerist activity that guilts people into spe...
