SPRING WHERE ART THOU?

On an extended vacation methinks.  Well at least I have tulips.

I really wanted two bunches of yellow tulips, but they only had one bunch left, so purple it was. I think I'm converted!

Loving the light through the purple petals.

Mid-week we made plans for today, to go to Wells and stuff our faces with street food, but the wee beastie storm had other ideas.  The wind started howling down the chimney again and snow started to flutter past the windows.  To be honest, I was quite happy with that as I had plenty to crack on with at home and wouldn't feel the guilts.

It's a far cry from last weekend, when we journeyed down to the New Forest to see our gorgeous girl and her lovely boy who were having a short break holiday with the kids and his parents.  We haven't met his  parents yet as they are a six hour round trip away.

The journey there using the Satnav.......what a fiasco, but strangely hilarious... and long.   In fairness, we did get taken through some picturesque little villages like Tollard Royal with it's thatched cottages and verges blanketed in snowdrops.  Occasionally,  I thought I could see grass growing in the centre of the one vehicle wide lanes it took us down.  I fully expected to end up in a field,  but we got there in the end. We phoned the girl and boy to announce our arrival and were informed that they had popped into the nearest village to buy supplies.  They suggested  we pop straight to the lodge, where they were staying, and introduce ourselves to his Mum and Dad, so we did.  It was such a relief that his parents were such lovely people,  you felt at home immediately. We spent a wonderful afternoon, the kids organising Charades, much to Mr.'s horror (he did play along in the end).  We all had a few glasses of wine, apart from poor Mr., which always helps in my book.  The girl and boy put on a lovely spread of continental meats, cheeses, olives and bread, which helped to negate the booze.  Even the sun decided to make an appearance!

We decided not to take the dogs because my sister offered to dog sit. She had a pleasant time too she said. When at home, she always has household chores calling her and it was great to just sit, relax and read.

Oh, and I had a great Mother's Day! Because the boy had to take his girls back to their Mum on the Sunday, which if they'd driven back to ours, would have been a six hour round trip, I celebrated on the Monday. We had a fantastic day together and I was very spoilt.

Well, I've  digressed a bit there from today's goings on. However,  I can tell you that Fanny the Featherlight is out of mothballs,  as I plan to do a bit of sewing in order to finish my project bag Wip.  Hoping my next post will feature it!

Fanny the Featherlight, my little beauty!
Hope your day wasn't ruined by adverse weather conditions.

TULIPS,  SOURDOUGH,  MANDALAS...OH, AND SNOW! I cannot believe we are already almost halfway through February.....where did January go for goodness sake? I've been treating myself to tulips, for which I'm a bit of a sucker, with this delicious bunch reminding me of rhubarb and custard sweets f or some reason. My affection for tulips at this time of year stems from the fact that they don't elicit itchy watery eyes and snotty, sniffly noses, symptoms that daffodils do.  Having said that, I have some Tete a Tete in the kitchen that will be coming into flower soon, so better stock up on the tissues. This bunch also called to me.....well, you can't have too many can you? I thought how nice they would look with  some sort of matching doily underneath them and a mandala sprang to mind.  I chose to this pattern one for it's design and colour palette and it proved to be an easy little make. The photo does not show the true colours, quelle suprise, as...
WE ARE NOT AMUSED! Her face says it all! As I mentioned in a previous post, this Bernat dog coat was meant for Pearl, but despite measuring her from collar to the base of her tail, it worked up in a larger size (my tension was off, I guess) and swamped her.  Lucky that she has a slightly larger sister! However, someone was not at all happy with it, refusing to co-operate in my photo shoot.   I was hoping for a canine, Ellie McPherson style strut on the decking, but Elsie was having none of it and flatly refused to look at me. It's quite mild here at the moment but when we have a nice cold snap, she might be more appreciative of it. I have also finished my Nordic Shawl. I've already been wearing it in the evenings, before the fire is lit and it's so warm and cosy.  If you want a lovely warm item of clothing that crochets up really quickly, give this a go. Information and links showing lots of examples are in my previous post.   I ought to b...
I bought my first bunches of daffs today, as my yellow tulips were shedding their petals. They look like a bunch of green artists brushes at the moment. I love the transparency of the tips, hiding those soon to be, beautiful blooms. Pearl is crashed out in the background after a mammoth walk this morning. So much for good weather today. It started beautifully, then blackened, then rained, then snowed and now we're back to glorious sunshine.  We took our chances and luck was with us on our walk and both dogs are now pooped.  I was quite excited when it started to snow, as it was the first we've seen this winter. I so wished it hadn't rained and the snow had settled for a few hours.  I do suffer from snow envy when I read other blogs and see shots of pure white fairy tale beauty.  Ah well. Valentine's day is looming. I don't know how you feel about it, but over the years, I've come to view it as another consumerist activity that guilts people into spe...
